(3) By giving the usual two months' notice

those whom it is not desirable to retain.

(4) By allowing the remainaer to continue on
sane terms as at present in a class by themselves.
The first portion of the printed scheme
attached states the proposeu pay and prospect of promotion
This scale of pay has been strongly
recommended by the Captain Superintendent of Police who
thinks that the Gaol Service should be on almost quite
as a good a footingin that respect as the police.

The second portion I suggest should
form the basis of the agreement to be entered into by the
applicant with the Crown Agents. It is partly modified
from the agreement in force in the Police Department.
An auditional rule might be inserted
to the effect that Officers are required to join the
Widows 'and Orphans' Pension Fund in force in the Colony.
The pension and leave regulations may
or may not be printed on the agreement but in any case
the Crown Agents should be instructed to make known all
the advantages of the Service,
These rules are almost entirely copied
from those in force with the Police and therefore need no
explanation.
